Tharl Leveling, Points Distribution, and Divisions
Leveling a Tharlarion:
Only a mature (6-day old) tharlarion of 10 meat can be ridden and tamed.
To tame the tharlarion, a rider must ride the tharlarion for over an hour, getting back on after being repeatedly thrown off at random times.
After a tharlarion has been tamed, it is automatically set with one point for each “skill”, which includes the skills of Speed, Turn, and Jump. At this level of skill (1-1-1), the tharl is sluggish and can barely move and maneuver.
The tharlarion can then be ridden to earn additional “levels”. Each level provides one point that can be added to one of the skills. Each level takes nearly twice as long to achieve as the one before it. This means that the first few levels take only 2 or 3 minutes of riding, but from Level 15, it takes over 8 hours of riding to reach Level 16. To reach Level 20, a total of 6 days of riding, 24 hours a day, is required. To reach Level 24, a tharlarion must be ridden from the day it matures until it has only 12 days of life remaining, when the tharlarion is 48 days old. A tharlarion does not live long enough to achieve level 25.
Tharlarion Divisions:
We use “Divisions” in the TRG to match tharlarions evenly against one another.
Each Division has a maximum number of skill points that can be applied.
The racer can select which skills to apply these points to (Speed, Turn, Jump). However, on typical tracks, only the Speed points are important. For the fastest tharls on certain tracks, 1 or 2 extra Turn points may be useful for control. Any points assigned to Turn or Jump subtract from the number you can assign to speed, so assigning these points is the same as wasting them.
If you assign a point to a skill, you cannot take it back! So if you assign, say, 2 Jump points to a tharlarion instead of using your points for speed, you have probably ruined the tharlarion for racing. It will never have enough speed points to compete in its division.
Levels versus Points:
A “Level 0” tharl has 3 points by default, 1 for each skill of Speed, Turn, and Jump.
A “Level 9” tharl still has these three points, as well as 9 more to be assigned by the racer.
So… a tharlarion always has 3 more points than the level it has attained.
Division 1:
12 Maximum points, usually distributed 10-1-1 to Speed-Turn-Jump.
This requires a Level 9 tharlarion.
Division 2:
15 Maximum points, usually distributed 13-1-1 to Speed-Turn-Jump.
This requires a Level 12 tharlarion.
Division 3:
18 Maximum points, usually distributed 16-1-1 to Speed-Turn-Jump.
This requires a Level 15 tharlarion.
Division 4 (or Open Division):
23 Maximum points, usually distributed 21-1-1 to Speed-Turn-Jump.
Also occasionally distributed as 20-2-1 or 19-3-1 for tracks that require many unassisted turns.
This requires a Level 20 tharlarion.
You don’t have to assign all the points that your Tharlarion has.
For example,
A Level 15 tharlarion has 18 possible points to assign.
If you want to use it as a Division 1 Tharlarion, just assign only 12 of those points and no more.
If you assign more than 12 points, the tharl would be “ruined” for Division 1 racing, because you cannot “take back” the extra points.
Division Races:
There are races for each of the four tharl divisions on each race day.
Most racers have a “Team of tharls” that includes a tharlarion for each Division with the level and points set.
Our races always end with the Open Division race with the fastest tharlarions on the track. This is one of the most popular races each week.
Have fun at the races!
